Mark Wyand

On his current album I'm Old Fashioned (Edel 2012), Mark Wyand introduces himself as a mature and independent musician, who has dealt with some of the greatest compositions in jazz. He has loosened the songs from certain epoches and clichés, interpreting them from his individual, contemporary point of view. In the tradition of his previous releases, Mark Wyand follows his own musical concept of contemplation, reduction and concentration, characterizing his instrumental style as well as his compositions and arrangements. I'm Old Fashioned is Mark Wyand's fourth record release. His debut Lucid Dreams (MonsRecords 2004) was followed by Eye To Eye and Hidden Hill (SonyBMG 2007/2008),which he produced with jazz trumpeter Till Brönner.

Mark Wyand was born in Bishop Auckland/England and grew up in Germany, where he had an extensive musical education in playing the piano and later the saxophone. He studied jazz and popular music at the renowned University 'Hanns Eisler' in Berlin. He still lives and works in the city as a musician.

Next to his own projects, Wyand collaborates with various jazz, pop and classical formations. He has contributed to many CD-, and broadcasting-productions and was part of the Berliner Philharmoniker's educational projects. He played in numerous Big Bands like the Rias Big Band or the SWR Big Band and different jazz bands. He is a member of a Klezmer/ Balkan Beat band and plays live for orchestras, amongst them the German Symphonic Orchestra and the Radio Symphonic Orchestra.

During his career, Mark Wyand has collaborated with musicians such as Wynton Marsalis, Clark Terry, Kenny Wheeler, Frank McComb, Till Brönner, Kevin Hayes, Peter Eldridge, Jens Winther and Robbie Williams. He performed at national and international festivals, such as JazzBaltica, Jazz Festival Montreux, JazzOpen Stuttgart, Jazz Festival Aalen, Jazz Days in Basel and the Ruhr Piano Festival. He has toured through Europe, South Africa, the US and Canada.
